END GAME - Roxanne Rustand - Free Book

I'm, happy to welcome Roxanne back to the blog. What are some of the spiritual themes you like to write about?

I like to write about people who have lost their way spiritually, through tragedy and other circumstances. People who feel God has forgotten them, and doesn’t care...and how they can find their way back into a full, abundant life if they can finally open their hearts to Him.

What other books of yours are coming out soon?

WINTER REUNION will be out in November. This is the first book in my Aspen Creek Crossroads series for Steeple Hill Love Inspired Romance--and the very first non-suspense book I've ever written. Believe me, my patient editor gave me a lot of guidance during the revision stage, because I kept inadvertently slipping in suspense elements! After that, the fourth book in my Big Sky Secrets series for Love Inspired Suspense will be out in April, 2011.

If you could spend an evening with one contemporary person (not a family member of yours), who would it be and why?

Michael Hauge or James Scott Bell. They both have written fabulous books on writing, and have such a keen grasp of the process. Having been in workshops given by them both, I know they would be delightful company. I think even my husband--who is an avid reader but who has no interest in writing--would be highly entertained if either of them came for dinner!

I know my husband, a non-writer, would enjoy James Scott Bell. What historical person would you like to meet (besides Jesus) and why?

Jane Austin. What an amazing voice she had, and such wit. I think she would have been delightful company!

How can you encourage authors who have been receiving only rejections from publishers?

I feel that if someone is truly motivated, truly driven to succeed, they already have one of the key elements needed for becoming published. There are a lot of super talented people who will never sell, because they lack the focus, drive and determination to make it happen. Rejections are an opportunity to improve. Go to conferences. Buy the workshop CD's from the ACFW and RWA conferences. Enter lots and lots of contests, because they offer feedback from fresh readers---and don't consider your manuscript your perfect baby, because it isn't. When you sell, you'll discover that your new editor probably has a hundred changes to make at the revision and line edit stages! So take the advice of contest judges to heart, then work hard to learn and grow. And never give up on your dreams. On the other hand, one thing that can hold you back is going after the wrong goal. Write what you love to read, not what you think is selling. If you love your characters and story, it will show!

Tell us about the featured book?

END GAME (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense, June) is the third book in my Big Sky Secrets series set in the Montana Rockies.

Blurb:

"I'll be seeing you again..."

The attacker's words still ring in Deputy Megan Peters' ears. Her attempt to trap a serial rapist terrorizing Lost Falls failed, but she has succeeded in becoming the target of his attention. Undaunted, she moves forward in her investigation, and Scott Anders, the only newcomer in town, draws her suspicion. Is his gentleness just an act? Yet as Megan and Scott grow closer, she finds herself questioning her instincts. What will she believe--her heart, or the evidence against him?

Please give us the first page of the book.

First Page:

"I won't stop until I find this guy, Anna." Seeing the raw pain in her friend's eyes, Megan Peters took a deep breath and forced back the memories threatening to swamp her. "I promise."

"How?" Anna lashed out, pulling her hands away from Megan's. "I didn't see his face. I don't know who it was, and neither did the other woman who got away. And the two dead girls won't be talking."

The bitterness in Anna's voice stung Megan as if she'd been slapped. "No. But the DNA—"

"Hasn't matched anyone in the system so far, and probably never will, right? This guy will never be caught."

"But it does connect the crimes, so when we get him, we'll be able to send him away for good. There'll be a time when someone picks up on a clue. Someone else who escapes."

They both fell silent, Megan's words a chilling reminder of the two women who had been raped and murdered within the past six months. If a group of noisy hikers hadn't come by and scared off her attacker, Anna might have been number three.

Hi everyone! What a delightful surprise to see you all here! I would've dropped in sooner, but I spent the entire day at an all-day seminar on Obesity. Exciting topic, right?! Actually, the speakers were all excellent and I learned a lot. I work as dietitian at a resident psychiatric facility part time, so I need to keep up on all the latest stuff.

It's wonderful to see how many of you enjoy mystery and suspense!

Hi, Lena.

I'm not sure when the ending date is for entry on each of your postings. I wish you would post it for "dummies" like me that have trouble with that. :o)

Anyway...I would like to win this book, too. You sure know how to pick them.
