THE QUARRYMAN"S BRIDE - Tracie Peterson - One Free Book on This Blog, Plus Much More

Bio: Tracie Peterson is the award-winning author of over eighty novels, both historical and contemporary. Her avid research resonates in her stories, as seen in her bestselling Heirs of Montana, and Alaskan Quest series. Tracie and her family make their home in Montana.

Welcome back, Tracie. Why do you write the kind of books you do?
Writing for me is a ministry and labor of love. I very much want to entertain, educate and encourage with each book. My 3Es are important to me, because I feel this is the calling God has put on my writing.

Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?
That’s so hard – there are many. My wedding day – having my babies and seeing them come to the Lord – getting that first writing contract – seeing Alaska the first time. Too many to pick from.

How has being published changed your life?
It’s allowed me to share God’s love and Gospel, as well as to enjoy working from home, traveling to explore places that I write about and meeting wonderful readers and folks who share research information with me.

What are you reading right now?
I’m reading Judith Miller’s In the Company of Secrets, Precepts Bible Study on Daniel, and Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison (a book on dealing with Asperger’s Syndrome which runs in my family).

What is your current work in progress?
A book titled A Moment in Time which will be book 2 in a new series Lone Star Brides. Book one debuts next spring and is titled A Sensible Arrangement.

We’ll be looking for that new series. I love reading your books. What would be your dream vacation?
Hmmm, right now I would love to go to Ireland to explore and enjoy the landscape, foods, museums and people.

How do you choose your settings for each book?
That really depends. Some settings seemingly choose themselves. I’ll read about a place or an event and realize I want to set a book there. Other times I might have a character who just seems likely to be in a specific setting and situation. Always, I try to listen for God’s voice and direction on where to set my stories.

If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?
That’s really hard. Obviously I love spending time with my family members and close friends, but I’m thinking maybe you mean outside of that circle. But since I’m studying the book of Daniel right now, I think it might be fun to spend an evening picking the brain of someone like Randy Alcorn and get his take on it.

What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?
I love to crochet and embroider. I have some computer brain games I like to do to help keep my brain sharpened.

I love to crochet and knit, but now it increases my arthritis pain. I have to do it in very short time periods. What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?
Writing has always been a wonderful escape for me, but often life loves to interfere, so those day-to-day issues that creep up are usually my most difficult obstacle to writing. I sometimes just have to hide myself away.

What advice would you give to a beginning author?
Pray – Read – Write – Connect! You can’t go wrong with taking it to the Lord first and foremost. You need to be reading as many various books as you can get your hands on. And, you need to write – whether it will ever be published or not. Write in journals, write on the walls, it doesn’t matter. No writing is too small or unworthy of your time. Lastly – connect with other writers and industry people. I encourage joining a writer’s organization and attending conferences.

Tell us about the featured book.
The Quarryman’s Bride is a story that takes place in the late 1800’s in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It deals with unrequited love and the things we face at times when we practice honoring and obeying. Emmalyne and Tavin have loved each other for a long time and as their wedding day approaches, tragedy strikes and Emmalyne’s father ends the engagement. Years pass before the couple come face to face again only to realize they still feel strongly about one another. Can God help them to overcome the obstacles that have separated them? Or maybe a better question is – will they let God help them?

I’ve read the book, dear readers, and it’s a wonderful story.

I reviewed The Quarryman's Bride, too, and donated the book to the Alamance Christian School library. I'd love to win a copy to give to an old friend who is shut-in with her bedridden husband.

Sounds like a good book from a good author. I love the hero's reasoning because it's a different take on a common theme.
