Welcome back, Rhonda.
Tell us about your salvation experience.
I was in church when I was 3 days old, per Mama. I was saved
at a very young age, 8, and baptized in a good old fashioned river in Oklahoma .
You’re planning a
writing retreat where you can only have four other authors. Who would they be
and why?
Oh this one is hard! I have so many wonderful author
buddies, but, for historical authors I would choose: Lauraine Snelling, because
she taught me a lot when I first started and she’s so fun! Tracie Peterson
because she is a wonderful lady who has much to teach. Laurie Kingery because
she and I need more time to chat and Karen Witemeyer.
Do you have a
speaking ministry? If so, tell us about that.
I have a small speaking ministry at this time. I mainly
speak to writer’s groups and small Christian women’s groups. I am always
interested in speaking to other people about God and/or writing. So if you know
anyone who needs a speaker, let me know.
What is the most
romantic thing that has happened to you and how did you handle it?
My husband proposed to me under my family Christmas tree. I
said, “YES!” Last May was our 30th anniversary, and he took me to Discovery
Cove in Florida
where a dolphin brought me a buoy that says Happy
30th Anniversary. I have the best husband in the world, so glad I said, yes.
I have a wonderful
husband, too. We are truly blessed. People are always telling me that they’d
like to write a book someday. I’m sure they do to you, too. What would you tell
someone who came up to you and said that?
First off I’d say that’s great! Then I would tell them to
read everything they can get their hands on that is similar to what they want
to write. I’d advise them to buy how-to-write books and to get involved with a
local writers group.
Tell us about the
featured book.
His Chosen Bride, is part two of the Westland brother’s stories. Their mother
started a contest where the first son to get married, and have a grandchild for
her, will inherit the family ranch. She is determined that Levi participate so
takes it upon herself to invite a house full of mail-order brides to town to
meet her youngest son, then proceeds to tell him he has to pick one.
Please give us the
first page of the book.
Millie Hamilton stood in the stagecoach doorway and looked
out on the town before her. Dusty, rustic, and sparse. Most certainly not like
her beloved hometown of Cottonwood
Springs , New Mexico ,
with its trees along Main Street
and flower boxes in front of businesses. No, she was finally in Granite, Texas , six months past
her original arrival date.
"Miss Millicent Summer?"
Millie knew without being told that the man in front of her
was Levi Westland, the man who'd expected to marry her six month ago. She was to
have been his mail-order bride. She recognized him from the photograph he'd
sent her in his last letter, though the small picture hadn't done him justice.
Surely he hadn't continued to meet the stage daily.
"Yes?"
Millie allowed him to take her gloved hand and assist her from the stage.
“I'm Levi Westland."
To say Levi Westland was handsome would have been an
understatement. Piercing green
eyes shone from his face like gleaming porcelain and two
dimples appeared as if loving fingers had squeezed his cheeks. She was caught
off guard by the sudden flutter in her heart. He was the most handsome man
she'd ever met and that meant trouble for her.
