Our church is
connected to some ministries in Guatemala ,
and about ten years ago, I went on our second mission trip there. On the way
from Guatemala City
to Chichicastenago, we passed a mission run by the Reynolds. Our mission trip
leader pointed it out as we went by. I didn’t think much about it until a few
months ago, when the Reynolds were at the church. When missionaries come, we
have a special time when people can meet them and hear about their work. The
story about how they got started with their mission is amazing. I told Pat I
wanted to share the opportunity to hear the story with my blog readers.
Welcome, Pat. What
would you like for our readers to know about you personally?
From my childhood, I have enjoyed the adventures of life. In
the midst of the hard times, which we all have at one time or another, I have
looked for the hand of God, and always found it. That does not mean I have
understood everything that has come my way, but it does mean that somewhere
along the journey I have been able to come to the place where I can see God in
the midst, reordering my steps, and changing my heart.
Tell us about your
family.
I am married to Charles Reynolds and we have 2 sons, Daman and Tommy and five grandchildren. Daman
is married to Karri Anne. They have one son and two daughters, Kylan, Addie and
Brenna. Tommy is married to Holly and they have one son and one daughter,
Harrison and Hannah. We are from the great state of Texas . We are the founders of His Appointed
Time Ministries, based in Snyder ,
Texas . We have been missionaries
in Guatemala , Central America , since 2000.
Have you written
other nonfiction books?
No other books have been written. I am in the process of
having this book translated and printed into Spanish. It should be ready for
purchase by October of this year.
Do you have any other
books in the works right now?
Only in my heart—nothing in print! When you come to the end
of this first book, you will see the reason for the second book and the title.
What kinds of hobbies
and leisure activities do you enjoy?
I love to get in a quiet place with soft instrumental music playing
in the background, a cup of hot tea, and a good book. I have been reading
avidly since I was 19 years old. Prior to that, I only read what I had to for
school. I can’t remember who, but someone told me about the book, In His Steps, What Would Jesus Do,
written in the 1950´s. I bought that book and devoured it, and I have not
stopped reading since.
Why did you write the
featured book?
I wrote the featured book for two reasons. First of all to
leave a written record for my grandchildren and second to share with all who
are interested in what God has taught me about learning to wait on His
promises. Many Christians have forfeited their promises from God because they
got in too big of a hurry, and gave up when they didn’t see their promise
materialize immediately. I believe that God purposely called me to wait long
spans of time to see my prayers answered in order to use my story to help
others not to grow weary in their wait. It has always been encouraging to me to
read the stories of others who have had to wait on God. I hope that my story
will do that for those that read my book.
What do you want the
reader to take away from the book?
God made several promises to me about my future. Without
exception, each one has required a “wait.” Most people don’t care to wait, and
I am no different. I am a person who really likes it done “yesterday.” But God
is not moved by our timeline. It is more important to Him that we learn to hear
His voice, trust Him without having to know His full plan, and wait for His
promises.
Some of God’s promises to me have been miraculously
fulfilled after a long wait and some still await their fulfillment. God has Appointed
Times in our lives. And these appointed times often do not just involve us
personally, but others as well.
When you have waited, like I did, for twenty-two years to
see a promise from God come to pass, exactly the way He said it would, it
brings overwhelming joy.
My prayer is that this book will encourage many, especially
if they have grown weary in their wait and have thrown away their confidence in
the Lord. I hope that my story will encourage them to go back to where they
left God’s promise, pick it up, and continue in their journey, because His
promise carries a great and glorious reward.
Is there anything
you’d like to tell my readers about you or your book?
It took me nine years to write this book. I started the book
in 2004 and wrote approximately half of it before I stopped. I had said all
that I had to say. I am glad that I stopped, because during the years that
followed God walked me through many more truths that He wanted shared in the
book. Always in the back of my mind, I knew the book would one day be in print.
In May of 2013, a close family member asked me when I was
going to finish the book. I told her that I knew it needed to be finished. She
replied, “Pat, if you don’t do it for any other reason, you need to do it for
your grandchildren.” That did it! I immediately started writing again and
finished the second half in about three months.

great interview! shelia from MS
ReplyDeleteLena, Thank you for having Pat. Just this week I turned in a 'blog post' to Suite T, Southern Writers Magazine's blog on "WAITING"! So I particularly enjoyed this Pat as I'm sure I would your book. Some things, YES, the Lord has provided when I needed and miraculously. One vision He gave my husband and I - as evidenced by my Bible's dated verse and confirming church bulletin (the same date!) - have been waiting for over 25 years! But that verse is Habakkuk 2:3 and I will stand fast and hold tight to the vision BELIEVING it WILL come to pass just as God said! My mama before she went to live in Heaven (17 years ago Aug 2) ask me how long I was going to believe it. I told her, "Mama, til it happens, or I got to Heaven." Bless you Pat, I'm certain there are many who need this message.
ReplyDeleteThis books sounds very interesting! Sherry from Ruckersville, VA

I, like most others, am not good at waiting. I think I need to read this book.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein has a sentence in it that I have always remembered that fits perfectly...Waiting is.

Sounds like it is worth the wait! Indiana.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book for me on waiting for God's timing. We have an international adoption we've all waited on for 7 years! Wondering about God's timing in this. Thanks for your interview. sharon, CA wileygreen1ATyahooDOTcom
