CAROLINE'S CHOICE - Martha Rogers - Free Book

I'm thrilled to feature fellow Realms authors. Welcome, Martha. What are some of the spiritual themes you like to write about?

All my books carry the theme of forgiving and reconciling either between man and God and man to man. Forgiving has been such a big part of my life with such a profound effect, that I have compelled to write about God’s loving and forgiving nature. With God forgiving so much in mankind, we must do likewise with our fellow man or we will be telling others we don’t truly believe God will do what He says. We are instructed by Scripture to be forgiving even as Jesus was forgiving.

What other books of yours are coming out soon?

A new series begins this summer with the release of Summer Dream, book 1 of Seasons of the Heart.

Yea. I want to feature that series, too. If you could spend an evening with one contemporary person (not a family member of yours), who would it be and why?

Laura Bush is one person I’d really like to meet because of our background in education and our concern for children and reading. I admire the work she has done with literacy and helping children have a better understanding of and love for books.

She is one of my most admired women as well. How can you encourage authors who have been receiving only rejections from publishers?

Keep sending in those submissions. You never know about God’s timing and when your manuscript will be on the right editor’s desk at just the right time he or she needs your kind of story. If the manuscripts aren’t out there, they can’t be considered.

Very good advice. Tell us about the featured book.

Caroline’s Choice is the final book in the Winds Across the Prairie series and brings closure to the Haynes family of Barton Creek. This is Matt Haynes and Caroline Frankston’s story and takes us to the year 1907 and the statehood of Oklahoma. Although separated by distance, neither Matt nor Caroline can forget the other and a near tragedy finally brings them together to admit their love for each other.

We really want to know what happens in the lives of these people. Please give us the first page of the book.

Chapter 1

Caroline Frankston’s hands clinched into fists, her breath coming in short spurts. Through the parlor window, she watched life go on in a normal, orderly fashion, but here in this room, her world lay fragmented like shards of broken glass. Each piece cut into her soul, causing pain that she no longer wanted to bear. The bleeding had to stop.

“If I don’t leave this town, I’ll never get married.” Caroline Frankston spun around to face her mother. “Barton Creek has no men who will ever be interested in me, so I plan to move to Oklahoma City and start a new life there.”

Her mother’s blue eyes flashed with anger. “You’ll do no such thing. You have responsibilities here.”

Caroline’s jaw tightened. Her mother’s demands only caused more determination. “What responsibilities? Going to luncheons and meetings with you and sitting around listening to you decide what people should do?”

The firm set of Mother’s mouth warned Caroline to be careful with her next words. Now was the time to stand firm and not back down. “I know you want what’s best for me, and right now a move seems to be it.”

Mother stood silent, a vein in her neck throbbing in response to the tension in her jaw. A mixture of anger and disbelief sparked from her eyes. She stood tall, with her back ramrod straight meaning she wouldn’t back down.

Without waiting for her mother’s response, Caroline headed for the door, but not without one last comment. “I’m sorry, Mother. I’ll be twenty-seven soon, and if I don’t do something now, I never will. I don’t want to be stuck here as an old maid with time on her hands and no purpose in life.”

You go, Caroline. This will be a great read. How can readers find you on the Internet?
