TACOS FOR TWO - Betsy St. Amant - One Free Book

Bio: Betsy St. Amant is the author of more than fifteen inspirational romances, including The Key to Love, and a frequent contributor to iBelieve.com. She lives in north Louisiana with her husband, two daughters, a collection of Austen novels, and an impressive stash of pickle-flavored Pringles. When she’s not composing her next book or trying to prove unicorns are real, Betsy can usually be found somewhere in the vicinity of a white chocolate mocha—no whip.

Welcome back, Betsy. Can you please provide a brief summary of your latest novel, Tacos for Two? Think “food truck wars” meets You’ve Got Mail! Rory and Jude have fallen for each other anonymously online, not realizing the other is their biggest competition in an upcoming food truck contest they both are desperate to win. With a multilayered family dynamic, witty online banter, and loads of spicy conflict, Tacos for Two will leave readers chuckling, cheering, and craving Mexican food.

Tacos for Two is the second book you’ve published with Revell, after The Key to Love (2020). How does Tacos for Two differ from your previous novel? The Key to Love was sweet, while Tacos for Two is all savory! My characters in The Key to Love were searching for identity and the true meaning of love, while Tacos for Two centers more on the themes of family heritage, loyalty, and sacrifice.

The main female protagonist is Rory Perez. Can you please tell us a little more about her character and her backstory? Rory has a heart of gold and a strong sense of loyalty to family—that’s why she is still working so hard to make her aunt’s food truck business succeed even though she can’t cook. She feels an obligation to her cousin with special needs and her late aunt—who was like a mother to her—to make the food truck a success . . . even if it’s to her own detriment. Rory loves jogging, lavender tea, and her heritage but is sick of Mexican food, hates change (and cilantro!), and is weary of carrying so many burdens. Her one escape has been communicating online via an anonymous dating app, through which she’s formed a deep friendship with a man she knows only by the handle StrongerMan99. Rory must learn that change is inevitable, and sometimes, that’s a very good thing.

Rory and Jude have already met . . . even if they don’t know it yet. Can you share how the idea for their meet-cute came to be? You’ve Got Mail has always been one of my favorite movies. I couldn’t resist setting up a similar meet-cute as a nod to the Tom Hanks classic! I also love the instant conflict that arises in romance novels when characters have a secret identity that must be discovered and responded to.

Both characters feel trapped by family circumstances. Can you elaborate on the similarities you see between these characters and why they may have some common experiences? Rory and Jude have much more in common than they first think. Jude is wealthy, and Rory is struggling to make ends meet for her inherited food truck business, yet they both are driven by a need much deeper and more vital than finances. They’re both struggling to thrive in a life seemingly chosen for them, rather than one of their own making. Once they start relating to each other on this level, the chemistry—and the conflict—only increases!

Why did you choose to give your more recent books food-centered themes? This unintentional “brand” of mine just evolved! It started with my novel All’s Fair in Love and Cupcakes (Zondervan, 2014) and was followed by several novellas that also featured bakeries, cupcakes, or sweet treats. The Key To Love (Revell, 2020) followed suit with a French twist. After that, I thought getting out of the bakery and into a food truck might be a fresh and fun change for my readers!

What do you hope readers experience when reading Tacos for Two? I hope readers alternate laughing and swooning over Rory and Jude’s online banter, find a new love for their own family heritage, become more open to the concept of change, and of course—crave tacos with extra cilantro!

What are you working on next? I’m working on a novel right now that involves a high school English teacher, an unlikely wish in Times Square, and a famous novelist with writer’s block!

How can readers connect with you? I love hearing from and engaging with readers. They can find me at the following social media sites and, of course, participate in my monthly newsletter by signing up at www.betsystamant.com.

WINTER BRIDES - Denise Hunter, Deborah Raney, Betsy St. Amant - One Free Book

Dear Reeders, we have a fun interview today. What could be more fun than a year of weddings? That’s exactly what Zondervan did this year, have a wedding novella per month. Now those novella’s are coming out in four collections. The first collection is Winter Brides, which released this month. And we have three of my favorite authors right here today.

Okay, how did this collection come about?
The team at Zondervan/HarperCollins had the idea and issued invitations to a dozen authors for the series.

Are these stories connected in some way?
The stories are connected by the wedding theme––each one has a wedding that takes place in the month of the title.

How does your story fit in with the others?
Each story is completely different, and not connected to the others except by the bridal theme.

Who chose the setting for this collection?
Each author chose her own setting.

What did you want the reader to take away from your story?
DENISE: Layla from A December Bride, is a home stager—she furnishes houses with props prior to putting them on the market. Just like the “before” version of her houses, Layla feels deep down as if she’s not quite enough. I hope readers come away with a fresh sense of their true value.

DEB: The theme of A January Bride is that true love can happen a second time around, and God can redeem even the tragedies of life. It sounds like a rather heavy theme, but actually the story has more humor than any book I’ve ever written. I love how comedy softens tragedy in a very tender way in this story.

BETSY: A February Bride has a strong theme of restoration—both literally in the sense of a car being restored and a wedding dress remade, but also emotionally, in regards to the heroine’s internal struggle. I hope readers find a piece of their hearts restored after reading this novella.

Readers want to get to know the authors they read. Can you tell us three things my readers probably don’t know about you?
DENISE:
1. I play drums
2. I love to travel the world.
3. I can stand on my tiptoes. Now, there’s a valuable skill.

DEB:
1. Much as I admire beautifully polished nails, I rarely get a manicure because my hands are always in garden dirt, refinishing furniture, baking, or typing.
2. I’ve become an orchid collector! My new office has a southern exposure that has proven to be magic for growing orchids.
3. I play the piano by ear. When I took lessons as a kid, I lost my ability to play by ear, so I opted out of lessons after 3 years, and play for my own enjoyment. When our kids were small, the piano served as a wonderful stress reliever. My kids all knew if Mom was hammering out “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog” on the piano, they’d better steer clear!

BETSY:
1. I could eat chips and salsa quite happily ever day of the year.
2. I know every single word to “Ice Ice Baby” and have rapped it on stage before.
3. When I was eleven, I was nearly kidnapped in a bookstore.

Those are things even I never knew about you three. Please give us the first page of your story.
DENISE––A December Bride
Layla O’Reilly squeezed into a corner of the bustling kitchen of Cappy’s Pizzeria and leaned into the receiver.

“No, no, no. You cannot cancel on me now. The wedding’s in five hours. Five hours, Cooper.” She wound the spiral cord around her fist, a sweat breaking out on her forehead.

“Layla, I—”

“Don’t even tell me you have to work. I asked you over a month ago. You said you got the night off.”

“If you’d just let me talk. I have strep, Layla. I’m contagious. I have to be on an antibiotic for at least twenty-four hours before—”

“I’ll risk it.” She didn’t care if he had malaria. She was going to this wedding, and she was going with a date. Nothing said See, I’ve moved on like an attractive man draped on your arm.

“I feel like trash. I have a 102-degree fever and barbed wire in my throat.”

Layla took a deep breath, the familiar aromas of garlic and oregano filling her nose. She couldn’t believe this was happening. “Now that you mention it, you don’t sound so good.”

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I know tonight’s a big deal.”

She closed her eyes. “It’s not your fault. The strep or the wedding.” She banged the receiver against her temple once, twice, three times. “I’ll bring you chicken soup tomorrow.”

DEB––A January Bride
Glancing at the chaos around her, Madeleine Houser set her coffee mug on the dining room table and shoved another packing carton out of her path. It didn’t budge. She bent over and attempted to read the smudged label. Kitchen—good china. Oh. Good thing she’d resisted the temptation to kick the box.

Maddie looked into the kitchen where cupboards gaped open, hinges naked. The cabinet doors were lined up against the wall in the empty breakfast nook. Even after four days, the smell of wet enamel stung her nostrils. The flooring couldn’t be laid until the electrician fixed the mess he’d made of the wiring. And she didn’t dare put her china in the cupboards until all that was finished.

What had her sister gotten her into? Kate’s husband had been transferred to Ohio, but with their mother in the nursing home here in Clayton, Kate had begged her to leave her beloved New York loft and move into Kate and Jed’s house on Harper Street while it was being refurbished to sell. “You can write anywhere, Maddie,” Kate had pled in her best big-sister voice. “Besides, you can sublet the loft, and just think what you’ll save on the rent.”

So here she was in Clayton, Kansas—the middle of nowhere—proving quite soundly that one could not write just anywhere.

Lugging the carton of china out of the way, she wove her way through the maze of boxes and poured another cup of coffee. She blew a long strand of dishwater-blond hair out of her eyes and slid into a dining room chair. In the midst of the piles of books and boxes and unsorted mail strewn across the table, her laptop computer glared accusingly at her.

BETSY––A February Bride
Allie Andrews couldn’t breathe, and it had nothing to do with the yards of tulle wrapped around her waist. Or the fact that the air conditioner in the crowded small-town, southern church was on the fritz again, resulting in the sporadic waving of wedding programs in front of flushed faces she’d seen when she peeked through the sanctuary window ten minutes earlier. No, her lack of breath had everything to do with the ticking clock. The literal one on the wall and the figurative one thumping an unsteady rhythm in her heart.

Married.

A bead of sweat trickled between her shoulder blades, sure to dampen the silky ivory fabric that cascaded down her back like a white-chocolate waterfall gone wrong. So wrong.

Married.

She twisted the stem of her rose bouquet and paced the faded orange carpet inside the bride’s room, her thoughts churning along with her breakfast. She slipped one heel out of her three-inch pump, anxiety tying her stomach into a knot that would make a Boy Scout proud.

Married.

It wouldn’t take much to toe off one shoe, then the other. Dig her painstakingly pedicured feet into the carpet for traction, grab the hem of this cursed dress, and just…bolt.

Better now than later, right?

Marcus. She couldn’t do that to Marcus.

But wasn’t marrying him doing him worse?

She strode to the window overlooking the gravel parking lot and stared at the onslaught of cars baking in the late September sun. It was a good turnout. Looked as if half of Beaux Creek had shown up. There were probably loads of gifts on the covered table in the reception hall by now—a forever-sentimental collection of floral-patterned china she’d rarely use, gift cards to home repair stores, and likely more than one toaster and blender. All gifts she’d have to return if she let her toes touch the carpet.

But would dividing them up in a divorce property settlement however many years down the road be any easier?

She started to turn away, then squinted at her reflection, seeing skin at her shoulder where there should be lace. Oh no…yes. She twisted for a better view. A tiny tear, right on the seam of the sleeve. Her heart stammered.

I can’t wait to read the rest of each story. Where can my readers find you on the Internet?

ADDISON BLAKELY, CONFESSIONS OF A PK - Betsy St Amant - Free Book

Betsy St. Amant lives in Louisiana and is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers group. She's a multi-published through Steeple Hill and has alsobeen published in Christian Communicator magazine and Praise Reports: Inspiring Real Life Stories of How God Answers Prayer. One of her short stories, "Kickboxing or Chocolate," appears in a Tyndale compilation book, and she is also multi-published through The Wild Rose Press. She has a BA in Christian Communications and regularly freelances for her local newspaper. ADDISON BLAKELY, CONFESSIONS OF A PK is Betsy's first YA novel. Betsy is a fireman’s wife, a mommy to a busy toddler, a chocolate-loving author, and an avid reader who enjoys sharing the wonders of God’s grace through her stories.

Welcome, Betsy. I love that you've done this book. I'm married to a PK. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon?
God is indeed good! My next Love Inspired novel releases Spring 2012, HER FAMILY WISH. I have a lot of different projects in the works! We’ll see which one takes off next. It’s all in His timing and will. I’m eager to see what He has for me next.

Tell us a little about your family.
My favorite subject! I’m married to a hunky fireman and we have the sweetest little three-year-old-girl in the entire world. (I’m biased but it’s also just true ::wink:: ) She gives me plenty of writing material and keeps my days full of joy. We live in the country and I work part-time outside of writing, as well as freelance for my local newspaper. I can’t remember the last time I was bored!

Has your writing changed your reading habits?
If so, how? Just in that I don’t have as much time to read, now that I have so many writing obligations. But I do make some time for it, of course, and I strongly believe reading genres that you write keeps you sharp.

What are you working on right now?
I have several new ideas for more YA books that I’m really excited about and that are pretty unique. Too early to share details yet but hopefully one of them will come about soon! J

What outside interests do you have?
Besides reading and family time, I love ogling shoes in store windows, downing Nerds right out of the box, watching Disney movies with my toddler, playing with all her fun new toys from Christmas and drooling over Godiva chocolate! I wish I could say I love to cook but…I don’t. I also can’t knit, crochet, draw, paint, sketch, sew, or play a musical instrument to save my life. Ha.

How do you choose your settings for each book?
I usually develop my characters first and their internal struggles, then develop the outside conflict and plot, and decide from there which setting best fits that situation. So setting for me is usually last! But occasionally, like in my first Love Inspired novel RETURN TO LOVE, it was first. I knew I wanted to write a story in New Orleans, so there you had it. Beignets for everyone! ::wink::

If you could spend an evening with one historical person, who would it be and why?
Jane Austen! I’d love to pick her brain about her books and the real life truth hidden inside some of those classic tales, and if she had any inkling at all while writing that her stories would never die.

What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started writing novels?
How much time is involved in the entire process of writing, submitting, and publishing! Even after a contract, it’s a year or more before your beloved book lands on a shelf. Patience is a virtue writers MUST eventually possess or go absolutely crazy. Ha! That’s why I encourage other writers to keep projects rolling. It’s easier to wait to hear back on one proposal when you have another one in the works. It also makes rejection easier when you have another story you’re excited about and can switch gears to it.

What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now?
Right now, God is teaching me a lot about going deeper. I received that Word from Him during the 2011 ACFW conference and I thought it meant in regards to my writing. But I’m realizing now He meant in my writing but also in my daily life. It’s been a chaotic journey the past few months J  Thankfully, I know He is faithful.

What are the three best things you can tell other authors to do to be successful?
1. Never give up, even when you have enough rejections to build a dog house.
2. Develop friendship with other authors who “get it” and care about you and your dreams.
3. Pray regularly and trust God’s will and timing. (this is the hardest to do but most important!)

Tell us about the featured book?
ADDISON BLAKELY, CONFESSIONS OF A PK is my favorite story to date. I just love her! When my author copies came in the mail, I carried one around in my purse for days because I just wanted her close! Haha. Addison’s story is about a day in the life of a PK (preacher’s kid) and her struggles in facing the opportunity to NOT be good for the first time in her life. She’s never had a problem doing the right thing…unless Wes Keegan roared into town on his motorcycle. Addison is also trying to figure out how much of her faith has been handed down to her and how much is actually her own.

Please give us the first page.

He looked good in those jeans, and he knew it.

There was no other explanation for the way Wes stood on the sidewalk across the street, one arm braced against the light post, his back to me as he chatted up a curly-haired blond in a midriff-baring top. I'd always hated those shirts. It's like, are you that proud of your belly button? Really?

I still think he only pretended to care about that poodle-ish waif who lived a few streets over. In fact, I was as sure of that as I was sure his favorite song was "Free Bird" and his favorite color was green - well okay, I assumed that because he wears it the most often, and it does ridiculous things for his eyes. I'd almost told him before, but every time I got that close I froze and could only stare at his crooked grin that had a tendency to melt my legs like a 3 Muskateers bar in the sun. So, to avoid the risk of babbling incoherently and dishonoring my 4.0 reputation, I'd mumble some excuse to head home before I leaped into his arms like the dozens of ska--sorry, there's no other word for it--skanks that willingly did just that. I definitely wasn't the only one who found Wes charming.

But I was the only one who didn't have a clue why.

That really caught my attention. I can hardly wait to get my book. How can readers find you on the Internet?
I created an interactive quiz and put on my website.
It's here: (and really fun!) http://www.betsystamant.com/extras/
I’m also on Facebook and Twitter!

Thank you for introducing us to Addison, Betsy.

RODEO SWEETHEART - Betsy St. Amant - Free Book

Welcome back to my blog, Betsy. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon?

He has definitely been at work and I am so blessed and grateful! RODEO SWEETHEART is my third novel with Steeple Hill Love Inspired and I also have a Christmas novella with Marta Perry releasing Christmas 2010 that I am very excited about. We’ll see what else from there!

Tell us a little about your family.

I am married to my hero, Brandon, who is a fireman and the love of my life. We have one daughter, who I affectionately nicknamed Little Miss, and she will be two years old in July. Hard to believe how fast the time flies!!!

Has your writing changed your reading habits?

If so, how? Yes, unfortunately. I have less time to read now since I am working toward my own deadlines, but that’s a good thing!! I think the only negative way that my reading habits has changed because of my writing is that the more I learn and grow in the craft, the harder it is to turn off that internal editor when reading other books. Things that used to never bother me in stories now do!

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on several proposals that I’m very excited about. More info on that to come soon! =)

What outside interests do you have?

I love shopping and spending time with my family. Watching movies, the usual. Plus, I adore kickboxing. It’s the best workout and since having my daughter, I haven’t had the time to get into it again like I was, but I hope to one day!

How do you choose your settings for each book?

It’s whatever the story needs. If I have a hankering to write about a cowgirl, like in RODEO SWEETHEART, then obviously she needs a ranch, so Texas seemed the perfect fit. With my first two Love Inspired novels, RETURN TO LOVE and A VALENTINE’S WISH, I set them in New Orleans because of my family heritage and my love of the city. (my husband proposed there!)

If you could spend an evening with one historical person, who would it be and why?

Jane Austen. I think she’d be fantastic to meet in person. I’d love to interview her about her own books!

What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started writing novels?

How slow the process is! And how attached you get to your “babies”. They say rejections aren’t personal, they’re business, but it still stings. =)

What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now?

I would say discipline. He’s really been moving in my life and I’ve been juggling my writing with my family time and being a homemaker and wife. It’s a good balance and I’ve learned a lot about how to make the most of my time – including my time with Him.

What are the three best things you can tell other authors to do to be successful?

WRITE WRITE WRITE. If you don’t write, you’ll never get published. Don’t spend too much time on blogging and Facebook and other communities that suck writing time for your schedule. Prioritize. Those avenues are important for promoting and marketing, but keep a good balance. Allow yourself a set amount of time per day or week for those things. Also, don’t give up. Again, if you give up, you are guaranteed to never meet your goals or dreams! (And a fourth – attend writers conferences and join the ACFW!) =)

Tell us about the featured book?

RODEO SWEETHEART is a story about a cowgirl named Sam who is determined to save her family ranch. Once a breeding farm, her beloved farm has been turned into a Dude Ranch in order to make ends meet. Sam wants to bring back the breeding farm in honor of her late father, who died bull riding in a local rodeo. To earn the money, Sam must ride in the same rodeo—except she knows nothing about bull riding! To make matters worse, city boy Ethan comes into town with inside knowledge, hoping to buy the property out from under Sam for a cheap price for his own family’s company. This story of opposites attracting and romance guarantee a fun, exciting ride from start to finish!

Sounds like a fun read. How can readers find you on the Internet?

A VALENTINE"S WISH - Betsy St. Amant - Free Book

Why do you write the kind of books you do?

My bio states that I love sharing the good news of God’s grace through my stories, and I truly do. I hope to show readers that God loves them and is there for them, no matter what. That even when people let us down, Jesus will not.

Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?

Getting married was pretty great, and so was having my daughter! But outside of those big life-changing moments, I’d have to say that one of the happiest days was getting word that Steeple Hill wanted to contract my first novel RETURN TO LOVE. Though I have to admit, that was pretty life changing as well!

How has being published changed your life?

It was not only a literal, life-long dream come true, but it also played a big part in my husband’s decision to let me quit my full time job and stay home and raise our daughter and write! Another dream come true!

What are you reading right now?

I just started reading (for review) BEGUILED by Deeanne Gist and J. Mark Bertrand, by Bethany House. What an intriguing story!

What is your current work in progress?

I just finished up revisions for my Christmas novella, THE GINGERBREAD SEASON, releasing in October 2010 as part of a compilation book with another Steeple Hill author, Marta Perry. I’m awaiting line edits before brainstorming my next book.

What would be your dream vacation?

Touring Europe, especially Germany and Ireland. That is a shared dream of mine and my husband’s, and we hope to get there one day! I’d love to see the castles and the rolling green hills and all the history just waiting to be explored.

How do you choose your settings for each book?

Sometimes my settings choose me! It depends on the story. Occasionally I choose the setting for a novel first, then base a plot around it, but other times it’s the other way around. RETUN TO LOVE and A VALENTINE’S WISH were both set in New Orleans and that was decided first. But my April 2010 release is set on a horse ranch in Texas, and that was decided after I realized I wanted to write about a cowgirl.

If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?

Hard question! There are a lot of people I’d like to meet, especially famous authors. Hmmm. I guess I’d have to say Nicholas Sparks. I love his novels and I’d be curious to know where he gets his ideas and how he always manages to pull off that intense emotional response in his readers that all authors try to create.

What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?

I used to kick-box regularly, before having my daughter. Now that my time is more limited, I try to work-out through a DVD program as often as I can instead. I also enjoy shopping, new shoes, lunch dates with my mom and grandma and daughter, and date nights with Hubby.

What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?

I’d have to say my current obstacle is time. Even though I quit my day job, raising a toddler is 24/7, and with my husband’s shift work, I’m often a “single mom” of sorts. Finding time to write amidst my time with my daughter and our limited time as a family together is sometimes a struggle. But, I’ve learned with discipline and prayer, anything can be done!

What advice would you give to a beginning author?

Write what you know, and write from your heart. Find a topic that you are passionate about and put it into your story. That passion will shine through your writing and will potentially impress an editor/agent later down the line, when you take that step. Heart really shows through, and your writing will better when you’re telling a story that is important to you.

Tell us about the featured book?

A VALENTINE’S WISH picks up where RETURN TO LOVE left off, with Lori Perkins as the heroine. (Gracie’s best friend from RETURN TO LOVE) This is a contemporary romance set in New Orleans in a chocolate boutique in the French Quarter.

Here’s the back cover: Unless youth pastor Andy Stewart finds a suitable wife fast, he'll lose his job. Yet the woman of his dreams is his best friend. And Lori Perkins is still smarting over a failed engagement, so he can't just declare his love. His plan: he'll be her secret admirer and woo her anonymously with flowers and chocolates. And then, when romance is on her mind, Andy will confess his Valentine's wish—to spend his life with her. There's just one little problem. Lori seems to think her secret admirer is someone else!

Please give us the first page of the book.

Unemployed. Single. And out of brownie mix.

Lori Perkins tapped her nails against the open pantry door. Canned vegetables and peanut butter crackers were nowhere near sufficient for this kind of low. She rested her forehead against the frame and blew a strand of dark hair out of her eyes. It really wasn't her fault—well, maybe two of the three problems were. She probably shouldn't have quit her job at the aquarium gift shop before the administrative position across town was a done deal, and she definitely should have gone to the grocery store before her chocolate stash ran out. But her single status was most certainly not of her own choosing. Add the fact that Valentine's Day was mere weeks away, and it became official. She was broke, hungry and destined to be alone.

The cordless phone on the counter jangled a shrill ring, and Lori snatched it up while peering one more time at the contents of her bottom shelf. "Hello?"

"Lori? I can barely hear you. Are you in a tunnel?" It was her friend Andy Stewart, the youth pastor at her church, L'Eglise de Grace.

She stretched one arm toward the back of the shelf. "No. The pantry."

"Searching for chocolate, I assume."

"Funny." So what if she'd become a little predictable over the years? Lori fumbled around a jar of peanut butter and felt a crinkly wrapper. Maybe a forgotten candy bar? No, just another package of crackers. She let out a huff. Was a little chocolate too much to ask for a girl having one of the worst days of her life?

"Are you all right? I can call back."

Lori shut the pantry door with a loud click and rested her back against the wooden panels. "I need chocolate."

"You're out? How is that possible?"

"Gracie helped me finish the last of my emergency stash."

"And she didn't refill?"

"There wasn't time before the wedding." She supposed Gracie had more important things on her mind at the time, like planning a honeymoon. Excited as she was for her friend's new life, Lori couldn't help the flicker of jealousy in her stomach. Happily-ever-after endings apparently weren't meant for everyone—her ex, Jason, had proven that point well enough.

She slammed the brakes on her runaway train of negative thoughts. "Look, is there a point to this conversation, or can I finish my desperate search for relief now?"

"Ouch. Bad day?"

"Did you not hear me say I'm out of chocolate?" Men. The cute ones cheated, and the funny ones were dense. Take Andy, for example. They'd been practically best friends for how long now—two years? Three? And he'd never once considered Lori as anything more.

Though it was probably for the best. If bitter thoughts of Jason still crept in her subconscious, she wasn't ready for more. The need for chocolate intensified, and Lori squeezed her eyes shut. Maybe if she pretended hard enough she could—

Andy cleared his throat. "How about I bring over some chocolate doughnuts? I have something I need to talk to you about."

Lori stopped the no from automatically rolling off her tongue. She preferred to indulge in her chocolate bad moods by herself, but without the chocolate, the bad-mood part sounded pretty lonely. "Fine. See you in twenty."
