SECRET SABOTAGE - Terri Reed - One Free Book

Welcome back, Terri. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon? I have several books to write for Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense over the next year or so. And I’ve been taking books where the rights have reverted to me and turning them into screenplays, as well as, writing an original screenplay. Learning the language of screenwriting has been a fun journey so far. I don’t know what will come of this endeavor but I’m learning a ton.

Tell us a little about your family. My husband of 34 years and I have two adult children. Our daughter is married and living an hour away from us. Our son has moved home for now to save money while he works. He’s trying to figure out his life.

Has your writing changed your reading habits? If so, how? Writing has made me more mindful of what I’m reading. I find myself studying books that keep my attention, and I must remind myself to just read the story and enjoy it!

What are you working on right now? I’m working on the second book in my own series about US marshals in Texas. This book will be a February 2023 release. US marshal Brian Forrester must protect Judge Gwyn Weston from an unknown threat. Finding out who wants the judge dead proves nearly as difficult as keeping her alive.

The first book in this series, Forced to Flee, releases October 2022. When Abby Frost discovers a dangerous family secret through a DNA test, she must rely on undercover US marshal Jace Armstrong to not only protect her but help her uncover the truth of her birth.

Sounds interesting. I’d love to feature it on my blog, too. What outside interests do you have? I do agility with my Australian shepherd. We take training classes two days a week and practice at home every day. We’ve done some trialing and have won several 1st place ribbons. It’s a fun activity that is very bonding as well as keeping us active.

How do you choose your settings for each book? I choose places I’ve either been to, so I can add in some of my own experiences of the location, or I choose places I’d like to visit. Learning about new locations and describing the setting makes the writing interesting. I’ve discovered many places that I’ve add to my “hope to visit one day” list.

If you could spend an evening with one historical person, who would it be and why? I would love to spend time with Shakespeare. I’d love to hear what inspired his stories and learn what his process was to write.

What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started writing novels. I wish I’d known how much I would love it. I would have started long before I did.

What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now? The Lord is teaching me to be more intentional about releasing my own anger, frustration, hurt, and anxiety over to Him. The last few years have brought out the worst in many people, and I’ve been on the brunt of some meanness. It’s much harder to stay in relationship with someone who has hurt you than it is to cut them out of your life. I don’t want to be that person who holds on to all the negative emotions that keep me from showing love. I must repeatedly choose forgiveness over anger and hurt. I can only do that through my faith in God.

That is so true. What are the three best things you can tell other authors to do to be successful? I would say the best three things to being successful are to never stop learning and growing in your writing, write consistently, and make your deadlines.

Tell us about the featured book. Secret Sabotage is the fourth book in my series set in the fictional town of Bristle Township, Colorado, featuring the men and woman of the sheriff’s department and the wealthy Delaney family. In Secret Sabotage, someone wants Ian Delaney dead, but he doesn’t know why. His family hires a bodyguard, Simone Walker.  She has her hands full with Ian because he is determined to discover who is after him and why, despite the danger.

Please give us the first page of the book.

“Mayday, mayday!” Ian Delaney shouted into the microphone on his headset, his voice cracking with adrenaline.

Determined not to give in to the jolt of fear coursing through his body, he worked the controls. The engine sputtered, sending a vibration through the helicopter so strong his teeth rattled. He prayed the air traffic controller manning the small airport atop the mountain outside of Bristle Township, Colorado, received his distress call.

Dread swamped him, filling his veins. He deployed the emergency beacon that would send out his GPS location on the backside of the mountain and gripped the cyclic pitch lever with all his might in an effort to keep the copter from a downward spiral. His feet worked the pedals to no avail.

He didn’t understand how this could be happening. He’d checked and double-checked all the preflight protocols. Clearly, something had gone massively wrong. Intentional sabotage? Because of what he’d discovered?

His heart hammered in his chest. He turned the information he’d uncovered over again in his head for the hundredth time. He should have informed the sheriff and let Alex look into the mysterious cargo being routed through Bristle Township, but Ian needed to protect his family. What shenanigans was his father up to this time? And if it wasn’t his father’s doing, then who? What secrets were hidden beneath the forest canopy racing by below?

The helicopter spun, the tail rotor ceasing to keep from balancing the torque. The tall, lush branches of hemlock and pine trees reached up like greedy fingers, eager to pluck him from the autumn sky. The main rotor gave out with a clang and the helicopter took a nosedive into the trees. The loud piercing scream of the warning signal filled his ears.

He braced for impact.

“Please, God, spare me!”

His breath stalled in his throat. A tight vise squeezed his chest. He’d failed his family. Who would protect them now?

The helicopter crashed through the branches, metal twisting and breaking. Ian’s head slammed hard against the craft’s frame and the world dimmed to nothingness.

A FAMILY UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE - Terri Reed - One Free Book

Welcome back, Terri. Why do you write the kind of books you do?
I write Christian romance and romantic suspense novels because I enjoy the genres. I love a happy ending and including my faith in the story is so rewarding. And I relish the action and mystery in the suspense books. I enjoy exploring relationships and the dynamics involved.

Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?
The happiest day of my life happened twice. The days my kids were born.  Becoming a parent has blessed me with so much joy and contentment. That’s not to say there haven’t been rocky times but I wouldn’t change anything in my life if it meant not having my son and daughter.

How has being published changed your life?
After becoming published, I was able to give up my part-time jobs and write full-time from home, which gave me the ability to set my own schedule, allowing me to be available to my family and to serve at my kids’ schools.

What are you reading right now?
I’m reading The Christmas Family by Linda Goodnight

What is your current work in progress?
I’m writing a novella as part of the 2017 Classified K-9 Unit series for Love Inspired Suspense. There’s an arsonist plaguing the city of Billings, Montana. Baker Vickie Petrov sees the arsonist. It’s up to FBI K-9 agent Tim Ramsey and his arson detection dog, Frodo, to protect her and sniff out the arsonist.

Sounds interesting. I’d love to feature it on my blog. What would be your dream vacation?
Holed up in a mountain cabin with my family and a ton of books to read.

That sounds wonderful to me, too. How do you choose your settings for each book?
I try to find places that interest me and that I want to learn more about. I wrote a book set in Niagara Falls because I am fascinated by the falls and it was so exciting to learn about them.

If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?
I’d want to sit with Helen Mirren. She’s a terrific actress and I’m sure she has an interesting life story.

What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?
I’ve been training my dog in agility which has been fun. I also like to dance and exercise. Currently, I’m doing Barre 3 online classes.

What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?
Writing the middle of the book is the difficult spot for me but the only way to get to the other side is to push through, little by little until I reach the point where the words come faster as I near the end of the book.

What advice would you give to a beginning author?
Learn your craft, be persistent, believe in your work and stay teachable.

Tell us about the featured book.
A Family Under the Christmas Tree is the story of two very career oriented people who find themselves in circumstances where they must put aside their own needs and wants for the sake of a child.

Please give us the first page of the book.
Sophie Griffith brought her rented car to a stop in the driveway of her grandmother’s house. The midday gloom of a rainy December tinted the world in shades of gray. She turned off the engine and looked toward the front door, and smiled as she spied Grandma sitting on the porch, wearing a red and white Santa hat. Little tufts of silver hair peeked out from under the hat, and a green fleece blanket was tucked around her. She waved as Sophie climbed out of the car.

A surge of affection hit her, and Sophie waved back. It had been too long since she’d made the time to visit Grandma. She missed this place. She missed Grandma. She was frustrated that it had taken this for her to make the trip.

Then, she blinked with surprise as she realized Grandma had company. There was a man on her porch. Well, there was a man on a ladder in front of her porch. A man with dark hair and long lean legs, wearing jeans and a black weatherproof jacket, clung to a ten-foot-tall ladder, stringing a stand of icicle lights along the eaves. Shouldn’t he be tied off with a safety harness or something?

She held her breath, sure any second he’d topple over as he reached for the little hooks attached to the house. Sophie returned her narrowed gaze to Grams. Hmmm. Two days ago Grandma had called saying she’d fallen and needed Sophie’s help. But she seemed okay now. What was up?

Movement on the lawn drew Sophie’s attention. A small boy of about five wearing a blinding yellow beanie streaked across the fenced-in front yard. A muddy dog chased him, close on his heels. Wait, were those reindeer antlers on the dog’s head? The child’s sweater could compete in any ugly Christmas sweater contest. His jeans and rain boots were caked in mud.

Who was this kid?

Yes, who is that kid? My readers and I want to know. How can readers find you on the Internet?

HER LAST CHANCE - Terri Reed - Free Book

Welcome, Terri. I just love reading these series by Love Inspired Suspense. What is the name of the series this book is in, and where in the series does it occur?

The 2009 Love Inspired Suspense continuity series is titled Without A Trace. My book is the last installment of the six book series, titled HER LAST CHANCE.

Who came up with the idea for the series?
Continuities are developed by the editors. Each author then takes the information provided and develops their own story using all of the elements that tie the books together. That way each story reflects the author’s voice.

How much research did you have to do to make your story authentic?
This series is set in the Deep South. I’ve never been to that part of the country so I had to immerse myself in the culture and as much geographic information as possible to get the feel for Louisiana.

Would you like to be part of another series of Love Inspired Suspense books?

Of course. I really enjoy writing for Love Inspired Suspense and Love Inspired Romance. The continuities are both challenging and rewarding. And being a part of a series is a special time of bonding for the authors involved.
I agree. I have a collection out right now that contains a series by three different authors with the stories tied together. I loved working on that series. What book are you working on right now?
I’m working on two books at the moment.

The first is titled CHASING DANGER, to release in spring 2010, about a female homicide detective who goes on vacation in Florida and finds herself embroiled with gun runners and an undercover ICE agent. This heroine also appears in my November 2009 release CHASING SHADOWS.

The second book is a continuity for Love Inspired Romance. The book is untitled at the moment but will be released August of 2010. This series is set in Alaska where a town is saved by romance amid a bit of intrigue and treasure hunting.
What would be your ideal vacation?
My ideal vacation is a few days at Disneyland or Disneyworld, sandwiched between days at the beach or lounging by the pool.

What is your favorite snack for when you are writing?

I like snacks that aren’t messy and that are small; usually, animal cookies, raisins, tea biscuits, or nuts. Maybe some chocolate pieces, too.

I agree with that no messy part. Who needs to clean up a mess when you're embroiled in a story? If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

I love living in Oregon so it’s hard to say where else I’d want to live. The only place that comes to mind would be Maui but I’d want to live up in the hills where it’s lush and cool, yet such an easy drive down to the beach for some sun and fun.

Tell us about the featured book.

The mysterious man at her door swears he recognizes her. She's Leah Farley. Mother, wife—and suspected murderer. But her amnesia has wiped away memories of her former life. When a shower of bullets follows the man's claims, Leah is forced to accept the truth. She's in danger. And unless she can make herself remember, there's no way to stay safe. With bounty hunter Roman Black's help, she must uncover her lost memories—before the killer succeeds in keeping Leah's past and future buried forever

Sounds intriguing. How can my readers find you on the Internet?
