THE LOVE SCRIPT - Toni Shiloh - One free book

Bio: Toni Shiloh is a wife, a mom, and an award-winning Christian contemporary romance author. Her novel In Search of a Prince won the first ever Christy Amplify Award. It has also been praised by OprahDaily.com, Popsugar, Library Journal, and Booklist, and is a Parable bestseller. Her books have been finalists for the HOLT Medallion and the Selah Award. As a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW), Toni loves connecting with readers and authors alike via social media.

Landing a spot on OprahDaily.com’s list of the Most Anticipated Romance Novels of 2022 with her Bethany House debut, In Search of a Prince, author Toni Shiloh continues to make waves in literary spheres. Praised for featuring “dynamic Black characters” (Library Journal) in her stories and named the inaugural winner of the Christy Amplify Award for raising up BIPOC voices in Christian fiction, Shiloh’s upward momentum continues as she launches a dazzling rom-com series for fans of the genre with The Love Script.

About the story:

In a world of glitz and glam, authenticity is hard to find.

Hollywood hair stylist Nevaeh Richards loves making those in the spotlight shine but prefers the anonymity of staying behind her stylist chair, where no one notices her. But when a photo of Nevaeh and Hollywood heartthrob Lamont Booker goes viral for all the wrong reasons, her quiet life becomes the number-one trending topic.

Lamont Booker’s bold faith has gained him a platform, and the authenticity of his faith is well-known . . . until the tabloids cause the world to question everything he claims to be. With his reputation on the line, he finds himself hearing out his agent’s push for a fake relationship—something he never thought he’d consider in a million years.

With their careers at risk, Nevaeh and Lamont have to convince the world that their scripted romance is more than just an act. But when fake seems to turn into something real, can Nevaeh trust her heart in a world where nothing is ever as it seems?

Toni Shiloh dazzles in this irresistible red-carpet romance with spotlight-stealing laughter, faith, and a happily ever after.

This novel is the first book in your new Love in the Spotlight series. What do readers have to look forward to in this series? I’m so excited about this series. You’ll get real-to-life characters who are thrust into the spotlight. In the world of internet famous, these books will show how hard it is to navigate fame, faith, and love.

Since The Love Script takes place in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, what unique challenges do your characters Nevaeh and Lamont face? Nevaeh and Lamont are living a fish-bowl life. Their every move seems to be tracked on social media, and hashtags are created just to keep up with their romance. Nevaeh has a hard time figuring out what’s real and what’s not. Whereas Lamont has to face the threat of being cancelled and trusting in God’s plan.

What are you most excited for readers to experience as they pick up this series? I’m hoping they’ll be entertained but see the depth of faith necessary to navigate life’s challenges. Hopefully there will be laugh-out-loud moments as well as the need to swoon.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Neveah and Lamont? Anything special that readers should know? Hmm, readers should know that Nevaeh cracks jokes when nervous. That she’s plus-size but refuses to be defined by her curves. That she has a dream and is doing her best to see it come to fruition. As for Lamont, readers should know he loves his devotional time with the Lord. That he became famous via YouTube. That he has two guy friends who make appearances throughout the book and bring in some lighthearted moments.

Did you learn anything interesting while researching for this book? Yes! There are so many tidbits I found interesting and wanted to incorporate into the story if possible. For instance, a lot of people in LA don’t like to travel outside their neighborhood. Considering I knew my characters would be going here and there, I tried to mix the real with the fictional.

What aspect of the story did you enjoy writing the most? The text conversations with Lamont and his two guy friends. I am not going to lie, I cracked myself up. My husband thought it was strange every time I laughed since I was the creator of the story.

What themes present themselves to readers in The Love Script? You’ll find reality vs perception, letting God defend you or devising your own plans, what it means to truly worship God, and more!

How can readers connect with you? I love hearing from readers. They can always connect with me through my website, tonishiloh.com. They can also find social media links and sign up for my newsletter on my site.

TO WIN A PRINCE - Toni Shiloh - One Free Book

Bio: Toni Shiloh is a wife, a mom, and the multi-published Christian contemporary romance author of In Search of a Prince (2022). Her novel Grace Restored was a 2019 HOLT Medallion finalist, and Risking Love was a 2020 Selah Award finalist. As a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW), Toni loves connecting with readers and authors alike via social media and at tonishiloh.com.

Please provide a brief summary of your new novel, To Win a Prince. To Win a Prince is all about Iris Blakely and Ekon Diallo’s journeys to each other and through the ups and downs life throws at them. The story explores what happens to Ekon after the royal council delivers their judgment on his actions (read In Search of a Prince or the prologue in To Win a Prince for a recap). Thus, part of the story is told in his point of view. The story also takes us through the ins and outs of Iris’s new business and her life as she settles into a new country and, hopefully, a new love.

To Win a Prince is set in the fictional African country of Oloro Ilé and follows Iris Blakely, who first appeared in In Search of a Prince. Can you share what readers have to look forward to in this novel? I’d be happy to. Expect Iris shenanigans, the world of fashion, swoony romance, and a redemption that brought me to tears.

Can you tell us a little more about the inspiration behind this book? I knew when I wrote In Search of a Prince that I would be telling Iris’s story. Honestly, all I knew was that she started a fashion business and Ekon would be her love interest. I let the characters dictate the rest of the story from there.

How do you think To Win a Prince serves both fiction readers at large and BIPOC readers? For romance fans, they’ll get that in spades with To Win a Prince. Iris can’t help but wear her heart on her sleeve, and the fodder that ensues speaks to that. The romance goes through ups and downs but ends with a happily ever after, just as romance readers have come to expect. As for BIPOC readers, they get the added benefit of being represented in fiction. I have had readers tell me how much they appreciate being able to identify with the diverse characters shown in my novels. To Win a Prince touches on the fairy-tale aspect of romance but grounds all readers in faith and realism.

You’ve said in the past that seeing diversity in Christian fiction is a goal of yours as an author. Do you think the genre is moving in that direction? I do. Every time I celebrate a BIPOC Christian author’s new release, I feel the industry moving in the right direction. I’m also praying and cheering on unpublished authors who hope to join the Christian fiction market.

For those who know you, it’s no secret that you love all things royal and romance. How have those interests influenced this book and your writing? In so many good ways! I’ll admit to creating a song playlist that had some “royal” and “romantic” songs to inspire me as I wrote. Not only that, but I was really able to focus on what makes a person noble as I wrote Iris and Ekon’s story.

Iris had a crush on Ekon from the moment she moved to Oloro Ilé. Without giving away too much, can you elaborate on how Ekon’s costly decisions have repercussions for both of them going forward? Great question! Iris is obviously torn because her feelings don’t just turn off because of what Ekon has done. So she has to work through them and what it means if she can’t keep her crush from developing into deeper feelings. As for Ekon, he comes to realize the true cost of his decisions and the ripple effect it has.

What challenges did you experience while writing this story? I actually wrote this story during a really difficult time. My husband had been laid off and our lease was up, and we needed somewhere else to live. It was completely overwhelming, and even though I was able to get an extension on my deadline, I didn’t give myself a lot of wiggle room to complete the manuscript. But God is truly faithful, pouring the words out in six weeks’ time. Enough time to give it another read through before turning it in. I’ll never forget the journey God brought me through while writing Iris’s tale and learning what patience in the Lord means.

What lessons do you hope readers gain from reading To Win a Prince? So many, lol! I hope they understand that God’s ways always bring about the best fruit for our lives. That nobility can be learned, and that patience really can have its perfect work.

IN SEARCH OF A PRINCE - Toni Shiloh - One Free Book

Welcome, Toni. When I first heard about this book, I knew I wanted to feature it on my blog. Please provide a brief summary of your new book, In Search of a Prince.

Brielle Adebayo is a middle school civics teacher when her mother drops a bombshell: she’s a princess and heir to the throne of Ọlọrọ Ilé. The king, her grandfather, is dying and needs to establish her as his official heir. It’s then that the royal council finds an old edict that dictates she must be married in order to become the next ruling monarch.

She’s given a list of eligible bachelors and grapples with the enormity of the situation. Can she be the queen the people of Ọlọrọ need? That is the journey I take the reader on between the pages.

In Search of a Prince is primarily set in the fictional country of Ọlọrọ Ilé. Can you tell us a little about this place? I’d love to. I set the country in the Gulf of Guinea, a little to the west of Bioko Island. It has a tropical climate like that of Bioko, but I used a lot of Nigerian influences to develop the country. It is ruled by a king, one of the few African nations that still maintains a monarchy. Their council is also made up of tribal elders to represent the different regions of Ọlọrọ.

What different cultures influenced the creation of this story? I had so much fun exploring the tribes of Nigeria. I also looked at how the colonization of Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, and western Africa as a whole influenced the current cultures. It was with all this in mind that I developed the culture of my fictional country.

One of the underlying themes in In Search of a Prince is learning to trust God and His will—no matter where it may lead. How does this theme come into play in the life of your female protagonist, Brielle Adebayo? Trust is such a huge theme for Brielle. She’s been thrust into a life that looks nothing like what she’s used to. She doesn’t want to do anything outside of God’s will, yet life is filled with so many new trials that it’s hard to distinguish what is what. That’s where trust comes in, and we get to see how her walk with God develops on this new journey.

What do you think this novel contributes to the inspirational fiction genre that we haven’t seen before? Diversity! It’s not often you get to walk into bookstores and see a lot of fiction with ethnic characters. It’s my hope that Black women (young and old) will see this book and see themselves. That it allows them to dream and be inspired by what God can do.

What was the inspiration for In Search of a Prince?

I was inspired by the union between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It was amazing to see their love, but it also made me wish for stories that celebrated Black princesses. So I dreamed one up. J

What do you hope readers gain from reading your new novel? My biggest hope is that they see God in a new way. That they’re able to trust that He has good plans and that nothing takes Him by surprise, so we can trust in Him and rest in those truths.

What do you love most about writing contemporary romance novels—specifically stories about royalty? There’s something about showing that romance and faith can still exist in the midst of our trials and tribulations. Add the royal factor of caring for an entire country, and it only shows how awesome God can be.

Please share your first page with my blog readers and me.

Prologue

“Your Majesty, I am afraid the news is not good.”

Tiwa Jimoh Adebayo, king of Ọlọrọ Ilé Ijọba of Africa, closed his eyes and lowered his chin to his chest. But even that slight movement was enough to bring a cough to his lips. His shoulders shook with the effort to expel the phlegm that did not seem to move from his lungs. He wiped his mouth, using a handkerchief embroidered with the kingdom’s crest, as his chest ached from the exertion.

“How bad is it?” he rasped.

The doctor sighed, lines furrowing his brow. “I am afraid there is nothing more that we can do, my king. The chemotherapy has been too taxing on your body and ineffective against the cancer.” He shifted on his feet. “All we can do now is make you as comfortable as possible.” His pause stretched heavy in the room, the only sound the king’s struggled breathing. “Dare I suggest, Your Majesty, that you present an heir to our great country?”

Yes. Of course. The time had come for the nation to know his heir—heiress. The granddaughter Tiwa had never met. He had wanted to remedy the situation, but regrets and pride had lengthened the time since his gross mistake and expanded the distance.

Tiwa wiped his mouth again. “You are right, Dr. Falade.” He rose unsteadily to his feet. “Rest assured, the kingdom will continue to thrive after I am gone.”
