DRAKE'S RETREAT - Wendy Davy - Free Book

Welcome to my blog, Wendy. Tell us how much of yourself you write into your characters.

More than I thought I would. My friends say they recognize a lot of “me” in my characters. But, since I draw my stories from experiences I’ve had, I shouldn’t be surprised.

What is the quirkiest thing you have ever done?

Nothing comes to mind right away. I have done some crazy things…Like driving fourteen hours to spend two hours in Atlantic City. Of course, I was much younger then.

When did you first discover that you were a writer?

From the first time I watched my all time favorite movie: Romancing The Stone. I knew within the first ten minutes of the film that I wanted to be a romance novelist.

Tell us the range of the kinds of books you enjoy reading.

I enjoy reading a variety of fiction. My favorite is romantic suspense.

What other books have you written, whether published or not?

A Matter of Trust – my first novel was published two weeks before Drake’s Retreat. I also have two free short stories available, and an Easter short story coming out in 2010.

How do you keep your sanity in our run, run, run world?

By writing. Although I’ve been writing for years, last year I discovered how therapeutic it is for me, and I finished my first full-length manuscript, A Matter of Trust. Ever since then, I feel best when I’m putting my imagination on paper.

How do you choose your characters’ names?

Sometimes I pick the names simply because I’ve always liked them. Other times, I watch the credits rolling on a movie or TV show and pick out names I like.

What is the accomplishment that you are most proud of?

My kids and fulfilling my lifelong dream of becoming a published romance author.

If you were an animal, which one would you be, and why?

A cat. Because I’d like to sleep all day, and have someone cater to my every whim…

What is your favorite food?

Fresh and hot Krispy Kreme donuts.

What is the problem with writing that was your greatest roadblock, and how did you overcome it?

Time. I first managed to squeeze out enough time in the day by putting writing on my daily schedule, and by turning the television off. I’m amazed at how much I can write when I don’t watch TV at night.

What advice would you give to an author just starting out?

Read as much as you can. Finish what you start, and never give up.

What would you like to tell us about the featured book?

Drake’s Retreat is a warm-hearted inspirational novel, where romance is intertwined with the character’s learning to overcome their past hurts while learning to follow God’s path for their lives.

How can readers find you on the Internet?

I have a website, http://www.wendydavy.com/, and you can find information about my books at http://www.thewildrosepress.com/ as well.

Thank you, Wendy, for spending this time with us.

Great interview Wendy! I own and have read "Drake's Retreat" and "A Matter of Trust" and both are VERY good! Wendy didn't mention it but she has a new book out too called "Night Waves" that you won't want to miss.

I don't need to be entered in the drawing but wanted the winner of this book to know they will be very happy!

Blessings,

Wendy,
I haven't read any of your books yet, but I'd love to try one. (So many books, so little time.)

I agree that you can save a lot of time by shutting off the TV. There are three programs that I tape and watch with my husband on Sunday night. Other than that, I watch very little TV and I don't miss it at all!

Hi, Wendy! I'm right there with you in line for the fresh Krispy Kremes! Congratulations on your latest book release.

Thanks. Lovely answers. Cat is tempting - sleep is tempting... Krispy Kreme too tempting since I can't have them. I'm certainly taking the advice to read.

Wendy,
I love the interview. I "discovered" you on the WRP site with 'Night Waves' which is definitely on my TBR list. I don't want to take a free book away from another potential reader, since I intend to buy yours, so don't put me in the drawing.

I especially liked your comments about TV. I stopped watching television at night when I started writing seriously. I don't even have shows I like to watch, anymore! But when I watch a movie, I do study the credits for names - first and last - to use in my stories!

Blessings,
Tammy Doherty
