Welcome back, Rachel.
I know you speak at various conferences and meetings. What do you have coming
up in 2019?
It’s been a busy year for me so far. I’ve gone to San Antonio , hosted house guests, rewritten a book, worked
with 22 writers at the Deep Thinker’s retreat in Destin , Florida ,
and taught at the Florida Christian Writers Conference. Coming up, I’ll be
speaking at the Christian Fiction Readers Retreat, hosing a table at the final
Barbara Vey Reader Weekend, and ending the spring “tour” at Book Lovers Con in New Orleans ! Come see me!
If you were planning
a women’s retreat, what would be the theme for it?
I’d probably want some sort of intimacy theme, knowing the
love of God in a real and personal way. We’d go through Song of Solomon.
Sounds wonderful. I’d
want to attend. Who would you want as speakers and why?
I’d have women no one ever heard of, but women I know walk
in prayer, worship, and the truth of the Word. Leah Morgan comes to mind, Sada
Rogers, and Alicia Powell.
Where would you hold
the retreat and why?
My home state ofFlorida !
It’s warm and beautiful.
My home state of
Do you read print
books or ebooks? Or a combination of the two?
Both. But I love e-book. Paper takes up a lot of space.
Both. But I love e-book. Paper takes up a lot of space.
The Memory House is an interesting
title. How did you come up with it?
The book started out as The
House on Memory Lane. I knew I wanted to deal with memories and the past,
how it affected the future, but as the story came together, it became about
healing hearts as well as memories. The Memory House became the better
title.
So what is the book
about?
The story is of two women who face devastating tragedy. One
after a surprise tornado swept through her hometown of Waco , Texas .
The other after losing her father in the North Tower
on 9/11. The house becomes the place of restoration and healing for them even
though their stories are more than 60 years apart.
Please give us the first
page of the book.
BECK
She was never afraid of the dark. But the light? Now that
terrified her. So when the perp ran down shadowed, dark Avenue D, she followed
without hesitation.
“NYPD. Stop!”
A sergeant with the Ninth Precinct, Beck Holiday also never
shied away from a fight. At least not on the streets of New York . Not in the name of justice.
Her partner’s footsteps resounded behind her, each heel
crack vibrating against the cold New Year’s Eve night. But when the suspect
jumped an iron gate bordering a small concrete courtyard between two buildings,
Hogan slowed up.
“Beck, forget it.” He gasped between each word. “Happy New
Year to him. We’ll get him next time.”
She reached for the bars and sailed over, the edge of her
tac pants just clearing the five-foot wrought iron—despite the extra load she
carried—with ease.
Adrenaline made her Wonder Woman.
“Stop. Police!”
The perp aimed for a side door of a run-down apartment building.
His toe hit a crack in the concrete and he stumbled, dropping a package to the
ground.
The item hit with a thud, and Beck glanced down as she
leaped over, maintaining her pursuit.
“Hogan, get the package!”

Anything by Rachel Hauck goes in my automatic to-read pile; I don't even need to read the back! I live in Lexington, South Carolina, and her Lowcountry books and The Love Letter are extra special to this Carolina girl!
What a compelling story! We can all relate to the tragedies of 9/11 and, being a Texan, I am too familiar with tornadoes. Thank you for sharing with us. Jane - TX

Thank you for introducing me to Rachel. This storyline intrigues me. I lost a high school classmate and 3 people from my town on 9/11. I also experienced tornadoes when I lived in Texas and this sounds like a not to miss book.
